California becomes the first state in the nation to provide full health care coverage to all undocumented immigrants.

More than 700,000 immigrant adults will become eligible for California health care coverage, Medi-Cal on Jan. 1, 2024.

It is said that undocumented adults are uninsured because they work on jobs that do not provide health insurance. And this number is up to 50%. Furthermore, undocumented immigrants may have language barriers as well as un-informed or mixed information on the availability and eligibility of health insurance.

Gov. Newsom’s office stated, “In California, we believe everyone deserves access to quality, affordable health care coverage – regardless of income or immigration status. Through this expansion, we’re making sure families and communities across California are healthier, stronger, and able to get the care they need when needed.” (ABC News).
